Transportation Federal Credit Union (Transportation FCU) has selected Evan Chess and Leah I. Sirmin as the 2023 Miriam Lieb Memorial Scholarship winners.
The Miriam Lieb Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to credit union members who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of others. Scholarship winners are selected based on academic achievement, leadership qualities, and a 600-800 word essay that describes a financial decision they have faced recently in their lives.
Transportation FCU awarded the first-place $3,000 prize to Evan Chess and second-place $2,000 prize to Leah Sirmin. Evan will be attending the University of Pittsburgh in fall 2023 and plans to major in Electrical Engineering. Leah plans to graduate from Simmons University’s School of Nursing in December 2024.
“We are proud to honor Miriam Lieb’s legacy in this way,” said MJ Neusaenger, President and CEO of Transportation FCU. “Reading the stories of how so many young people are making a difference in their communities and the lives they have touched, is a testament to the credit union belief of people helping people.”
Throughout her 34-year career as President/CEO of Transportation FCU, Miriam Lieb dedicated herself to furthering the credit union movement. She was also a mentor, helping encourage and cultivate the talents of many other credit union leaders earlier in their careers.
