Success means a pro-credit union 119th Congress

One thing is clear when it comes to the 119th Congress: we will have friends on both sides of the aisle who are willing to stand up for and support credit unions.

Having a pro-credit union Congress means – regardless of which party controls each chamber – we have supporters in key positions who understand and embrace the credit union difference. As I wrote on Election Day, it was essential that credit unions vote and the industry made its voice heard. By helping elect credit union-friendly candidates in both the House and Senate, you did just that.

Credit union-backed candidates won 350 of 356 races called as of Friday morning. We also went 48 out of 48 in called open seat races (four are yet to be called); these are seats where we had the opportunity to welcome a new credit union champion – and we seized it. Freshman members include seven new senators (four Republicans, three Democrats), and 41 new House members (21 Republicans, 20 Democrats).

We saw successes, with strong credit union champions Reps. Angie Craig, D-Minn; Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa.; Andrea Salinas, D-Ore.; and Zach Nunn-R-Iowa all coming out ahead in tough races. Each of them received major support from America’s Credit Unions, its PAC, and state Leagues.
