On Friday I had the pleasure of being a guest alongside Sarah Snell Cooke on Jason Diaz and Troy Hall’s RadioFree Credit Union Show.  The discussion was on what CUs must do to keep the momentum going now and into 2012 and we took a quick look back at the top credit union stories of 2011.

Sarah Snell Cooke (Credit Union Times) started the show discussing her top three topics of 2011.  I’m sure it came as no surprise that Bank Transfer Day was the topic of the year.  Sarah tied in how the implementation of Dodd-Frank led to the Bank of America announcement of new debit card fees. That announcement sparked the social media led Bank Transfer Day and a media bonanza for credit unions.

Sarah’s top three stories of 2011 were:

  • Dodd-Frank to Bank Transfer Day
  • Corporate Credit Union Shake out
  • New CUSO Regulation

Jason, Troy and I then discussed the positive media attention from Bank Transfer Day and the idea of national branding of credit unions.  I talked about my strong belief that every credit union can be a PR powerhouse in their community and the need of local media for content as well as experts.  We finished the show discussing how credit unions can be relevant not only in 2012 but in 2020 as well.

Take a few minutes and listen to the replay of the radio show below.  We would love to hear the thoughts and ideas of the CU community and continue the discussion on these topics.

Tune in to hear what Jason and Troy are talking about every Friday on the RadioFree Credit Union Show.
