Wright-Patt Credit Union® named Distinguished Air Force Credit Union of the Year

Wright-Patt Credit Union is proud to receive this recognition for a second year in a row.

BEAVERCREEK, OH (August 19, 2024) — Wright-Patt Credit Union (WPCU®) was recognized as Distinguished Air Force Credit Union of the Year for 2023 by The United States Air Force.

For the second year in a row, Wright-Patt Credit Union was named the 2023 Distinguished Air Force Credit Union of the Year in the large asset category. WPCU was ranked as number 1 of 13 nominees in this category. The distinguished Air Force Credit Union of the Year award is presented to a financial institution that provides the Air Force community with superior financial education and customized services.

“Wright-Patt Credit Union’s service to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base community is unparalleled and is a remarkable asset not only to the 88th Air Base Wing, but also the 129 tenant units across the installation… the Credit Union has become part of our military family and is a well-respected mission partner,” commented Dustin C. Richards, Colonel, USAF Commander in a signed memorandum.

This award was presented on August 14, during The Annual Defense Credit Union Council Conference Difference, in St. Petersburg, Florida. The conference was attended by industry leaders from around the world and members of Defense Credit Unions from across the United States.

In addition to financial services and financial education programs, WPCU offers the First-Time Auto Buying for Military Members program to eligible active-duty military members at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. This program allows Airmen who have limited or no credit history to purchase their first vehicle with no cosigner required. Loans are subject to membership eligibility, credit approval and collateral conditions. Additionally, military members benefit from a 1% discount by setting up direct deposit and automatic payments. In 2023, WPCU financed $205,993.46 for military members beginning their financial journey.

“Wright-Patt Credit Union originated on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in 1932 when employees at the instillation began contributing 25 cents per week to aid a fellow co-worker when his family was in need. This fund, originally called the ‘Sunshine Community Fund,’ led to the inception of Wright-Patt Credit Union,” says WPCU President & CEO, Tim Mislansky. “This award demonstrates that 93 years later, we continue to live out the generous spirit of that initial fund and are fulfilling our mission to help people through life.”

WPCU supports Wright-Patterson Air Force base and the surrounding community by operating three member centers on-base and providing operational support for millions of dollars in Treasury General Account deposits from multiple base agencies. The credit union also hosts military-focused webinars and in-person courses to help members understand credit, investment basics (TSP), and budgeting and offers multiple products tailored to the needs of the Air Force community like discounted loans for first-time auto buyers.
