UW Credit Union Awards $300,000 in Scholarship Funds

January 17, 2013 – Madison, WI – UW Credit Union is pleased to announce an award of $300,000 to scholarship endowment funds at the UW System campuses they serve. These include previously established funds at UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Green Bay, UW-Whitewater and UW-Stevens Point as well as a new endowment fund at UW Oshkosh.

“UW Credit Union has been a trusted financial partner for thousands of UW System students over the years, and we know that our Wisconsin communities are strengthened when we help keep higher education financially accessible,” said UW Credit Union President and CEO Paul Kundert. “Wisconsin residents have reason to be proud of our excellent universities and colleges, but there is an urgent need to make sure that talented young people are not excluded, simply because they can't afford to attend."

UW Credit Union is a strong supporter of higher education and has multiple initiatives to help students afford the cost of college. In 2008, the credit union established permanent scholarship endowment funds totally nearly $1.5 million for UW System campuses served by UW Credit Union locations through on online fundraising campaign. Additionally, they support area high schools by providing annual needs-based scholarships directly to deserving students who will attend a UW System School.

“We need a stronger workforce in Wisconsin, fueled by more college graduates. In today’s tough economic times, the price of college might deter some bright young people from pursuing a UW degree, so investments in need-based financial aid are more vital than ever,” said UW System President Kevin P. Reilly. “The impact of these scholarship funds will touch students from every corner of the state, and we are very grateful for UW Credit Union’s generosity.”

Earnings from these endowments are given as aid to students who have been accepted into the schools, but are unable to afford the cost of attendance.
