Unitus Community Credit Union’s Vice Chair of the Board of Directors has won the Distinguished Director Award at the GoWest Association’s annual MAXX Awards. This recognition is awarded to a board director who has displayed outstanding achievements and accomplishments.
According to GoWest, the organization received a record-breaking number of nominations for the awards, which are open to credit unions in the six states the association serves: Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming. GoWest serves more than 300 credit unions and their more than 17 million members.
“The amount of nominations and momentum pushing forward the Credit Union Movement is absolutely inspiring,” GoWest President and CEO Troy Stang said in a news release. “Credit unions continue to improve, bring value to their members, and bring innovative ideas to life. A huge congratulations to the winners, and applause to the finalists and nominees!”
Ms. Davison León was recognized for her commitment and leadership in credit union advocacy, community service, and the ongoing success of Unitus. Her efforts in fostering deep connections with the Latino community and stakeholders have significantly enhanced industry engagement with underrepresented voices.
“As a first-generation Latina and immigrant, standing up for our members, especially those furthest from fair access to financial institutions, is personal to me; it’s work that I carry with deep pride,” remarked Ms. Davison León. “Thank you, Unitus, for believing in the power of true representation and for setting the standard for what boards at all levels can—and should—look like: boards that reflect and represent the communities they serve.”
“I am so proud of the work Nicole does for Unitus, and all she does for our communities,” said Unitus Board Chair Matthew Mičetić. “I can’t wait to see the things she does in the coming years and the amazing work she’ll continue to do.”
“The first time I met Nicole, I knew she was a connector,” lauded Steven Stapp, President and CEO of Unitus Community Credit Union. “Nicole has connected so many people within our community and we are so grateful.”
