COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (May 1, 2013) – Ent Federal Credit Union challenged the Visual Arts Department at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) to design a new mural for display in Ent’s service center located on campus in the UCCS University Center.
Three UCCS visual art students accepted the challenge and created a unique new mural, which they named “Unity.” According to the students, “the new mural is meant to illustrate the support and collaboration Ent provides for the UCCS students, staff and faculty as well as the Colorado Springs community. The use of bright colors, organic lines and shapes were meant to evoke the beautiful essence of Colorado Springs and the stunning Rocky Mountains. The glass tiles represent the diversity of people who join together to create a dynamic and economically vibrant community.”
Led by Associate Professor Valerie Brodar, the mural team of visual and performing arts major’s Elena Clark, Kori Pothour and Rachel Davidson worked together for more than six months to produce the final product – a 10 foot tall piece of original art. The latest mural is the third student-made mural Ent has displayed in their center since their first piece in 2008.
On April 22, 2013, Ent unveiled the new mural at their service center during a short ceremony. The students that worked on the mural were presented with a cash gift for their work and a plaque in their honor was placed at the mural.
According to Matt Gendron, senior vice president of operations for Ent, “We are very impressed with what the students created and are proud to display it in our service center here at UCCS. These students collaborated well and are very talented; their creativity and artistic ability definitely shows in the final product.”
