Taste of Winning: Local foundation awards $10,000 to Food Truck Challenge winners, celebrates their entrepreneurial spirit

METAIRIE, LA (September 26, 2024) — In Louisiana, it’s not a festival without the food and a little competition. Credit Union Fest recognized food trucks’ impact on our vibrant community by hosting the highly anticipated Food Truck Challenge.

Held during the free event on September 14 in Lafreniere Park, six local food trucks competed for top honors as festival goers relished in the culinary creations. To make the challenge even more grand, the OnPath Foundation, the philanthropic extension of OnPath Federal Credit Union, awarded $10,000 in cash prizes to support the continued success of these small businesses

Lillie’s Cajun Kitchen took home the top prize of $7,500, impressing a panel of judges with their flavorful jambalaya inside a creole tomato bowl. Cayenne Seafood Specialties took home both the second-place prize of $1,500 as well as the coveted fan favorite title and $1,000.

The cash prize was part of OnPath FCU Foundation’s ongoing commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and supporting local businesses across Southeast Louisiana. The initiative aligns with the foundation’s broader mission to create educational opportunities, promote homeownership, and support small businesses and entrepreneurs throughout the community.

“Local food trucks provide more than flavorful food. While feeding both stomachs and souls, these small businesses contribute to the growth of our local economy, create social impact, and foster community connections,” said Candace Washington Theodore, President of the OnPath Foundation. “We are honored to spotlight these local businesses and support their growth. Our goal is to continue fostering initiatives that drive economic mobility and uplift our community.”

Through collaborations with community leaders and local nonprofits, the OnPath Foundation aims to expand its impact and empower individuals and businesses alike. The foundation remains dedicated to enhancing people’s lives throughout the greater New Orleans area by creating pathways to financial independence and stability.
