State Employees’ Credit Union Wins National Award for its Estate Planning Essentials Program!

RALEIGH, NC – State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) has been honored with a national first place Louise A. Herring Award for Philosophy in Action by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) for its Estate Planning Essentials (EPE) program.  Designed to fill member needs for basic, affordable estate planning, the EPE program provides access to quality estate planning education, estate planning attorneys and affordable documents, including a will.  SECU further enhanced the program to include a low-cost loan, making it more accessible to its membership.  To date, the Credit Union has helped well over 11,000 members with their estate planning needs.  The award was presented to McKinley Wooten, SECU Board of Directors Chair, at the recent Governmental Affairs Conference held in Washington, DC.

The Louise A. Herring Award recognizes credit unions that, in day-to-day operations, demonstrate the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People” in an extraordinary way.  Prior to winning the national award, SECU competed in North Carolina Credit Union League’s statewide competition and received a first place finish.

On receiving the honor McKinley Wooten comments, “It’s very rewarding to be recognized for our efforts to provide SECU members with quality and affordable estate planning services.  The success of this program reveals the great need for basic estate planning, a critical element for the protection of one’s financial future.  The EPE program is truly representative of SECU’s desire to go above and beyond the traditional realm of member financial services.”
