St. Louis Area Credit Unions build support at lawmakers reception

ST. CHARLES, MO (October 2, 2024)The St. Louis Chapter of Credit Unions hosted a Legislative Reception on September 19 at the RYSE Nightclub inside Ameristar Casino. More than 70 advocates from 10 St. Louis-area credit unions and 20 lawmakers and their guests attended the event for an evening of connection, collaboration, and community impact.

This annual reception is a platform for credit union professionals, volunteers, and lawmakers to exchange stories of how Missouri credit unions continue to make a difference in their local communities. Advocates shared firsthand experiences of supporting members through financial literacy programs, charitable donations, and helping residents overcome challenges posed by rising inflation.

“Our credit unions are committed to improving the lives of Missouri residents, and this event gave us the perfect opportunity to highlight those efforts directly to our elected officials,” said Lori Hudson, Chair of the St. Louis Chapter of Credit Unions. “The stories shared tonight demonstrate the profound impact that credit unions have on the financial well-being of our community, and we’re grateful to the lawmakers for their ongoing support.”

Lawmakers appreciated hearing these personal stories and learning about credit unions’ critical role in driving local economic stability and growth. The event also encouraged ongoing dialogue between credit union leaders and policymakers, fostering stronger relationships and a deeper understanding of the credit union movement’s contributions.
