Silver State Schools Credit Union announces opening of $50,000 Middle-income down payment assistance program

Las Vegas, NV (March 24, 2025) |

Silver State Schools Credit Union (SSSCU) is excited to announce the opening of applications for its Middle-Income Down Payment Assistance program. This initiative, supported by the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, aims to provide up to $10 million in funding to assist middle-income, first-time homebuyers in Nevada, California, and other eligible states.

Under this program, qualified applicants may receive up to $50,000 in grant funds to help with down payments and closing costs. The grants will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and interested homebuyers are strongly encouraged to apply early as funding is limited.

"It's a privilege to be part of this program, which offers a meaningful mortgage opportunity to hardworking individuals and families," said Scott Arkills, President/CEO of Silver State Schools Credit Union. "The Grant assistance is more than just helping people buy homes today, it helps build a foundation for future generations. This Program aligns perfectly with our Purpose of Prioritizing People Over Profit, ensuring our members have the tools they need to secure their financial futures."

The program is designed to assist individuals and families earning between 80.01% and 140% of the area median income. Eligible participants must be first-time homebuyers, as defined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and must meet several key criteria:

•     Contribute a minimum of $10,000 toward the home purchase
•     Complete a HUD-approved Homebuyer Counseling Program
•     Purchase an eligible property in Nevada, California, or Arizona as their primary residence

This vital assistance provides a unique opportunity for middle-income homebuyers to achieve their homeownership goals and secure financial stability in today’s competitive housing market.
