SECU MD Foundation names Charlotte Owsianny new Executive Director

BALTIMORE, MD (June 10, 2024)SECU, Maryland’s largest state-chartered credit union, and the SECU MD Foundation have named Charlotte Z. Owsianny as the newest Executive Director of the Foundation. With nearly 20 years of experience in fundraising and grant management in the nonprofit sector, Owsianny is poised to bring her expertise and strategic vision to the SECU MD Foundation in support of its mission: to create a stronger Maryland by empowering access to education, supporting health and wellness and serving as a catalyst for community development.

“The entire team at SECU is delighted to have Charlotte at the helm of the incredible team at the SECU MD Foundation, where we know her experience and talents will further our mission,” said Becky Smith, Foundation Board President. “Her impressive background implementing and overseeing strategic stewardship plans and capital campaigns will allow the Foundation to reach new heights. We look forward to her visionary expansion of our existing initiatives and programs that bring SECU employees, members, and neighbors together as a force for good in the Maryland communities we serve.”

The SECU MD Foundation has a long history of fully embracing the credit union’s philosophy of “People Helping People,” supporting well over 50 local nonprofits through donations, volunteerism and other community-centric events, as well as providing scholarships and community impact grants annually. The Foundation has provided over 300 scholarships to members and well over $1.5M in grants and funds to date.

“I’m thrilled to be leading the team at SECU and the SECU MD Foundation, and I look forward to being a part of a great team in service of the Foundation’s mission – creating a stronger Maryland,” said Owsianny. “It’s an honor to join such a dedicated group that continues to make a positive impact in communities across the state, and I am eager to see all that we can achieve together.”

Prior to joining the Foundation as Executive Director, Owsianny most recently served as Chief Advancement Officer at Next One Up, where she spearheaded all marketing, fundraising and donor engagement events and efforts, and oversaw a successful capital campaign that outperformed original fundraising goals by 65 percent. Her previous experience and roles as an associate with Blaustein Philanthropic Group and later an independent nonprofit consultant allowed Owsianny to build her strong foundation for grant writing and management, program development and nonprofit governance.

Originally from Alabama, Charlotte Owsianny made her way to Maryland where she earned her Bachelor of Arts from Loyola University Maryland, and later her Master’s Degree in Public Policy from Johns Hopkins University. She currently resides in Towson with her husband and twin sons.
