Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union makes a record leadership gift to the Lobo Alliance

SLFCU becomes the first corporate partner of the Lobo Alliance as part of a multi-year agreement to support the Lobo Alliance’s goal of enhancing and amplifying the student-athlete experience.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (September 26, 2024) — The University of New Mexico athletic department announced the largest-of-its-kind gift from Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union (SLFCU) supporting the Lobo Alliance. The multi-year donation and partnership will help realize the Lobo Alliance collective’s goals and provide new resources to UNM student-athletes.

The Lobo Alliance promotes stronger connection and alignment between 505 Sports Venture Foundation (505SVF), the Lobo Club, and Lobo Athletics. This combined group aims to enhance and amplify the student-athlete experience with donation levels starting at $25,000 a year. The Lobo Alliance’s goal is to help provide a high-level education, state-of-the-art facilities, and continued student-athlete development, along with an elite program that accelerates the success of its student-athletes and allows Lobo Athletics to remain competitive.

“We deeply value our long-standing relationship with UNM and are excited at the prospect of the incredible positive impact we can deliver together,” said Steph Sherrodd, SLFCU President and CEO. “With this opportunity, it was quickly apparent that the goals of the Lobo Alliance were aligned with our goals of financial empowerment, cooperative spirit, and people helping people.”

“Thank you, Steph and SLFCU for the tremendous gift to the Lobo Alliance and the demonstration of commitment to the success of UNM Athletics,” said David Williams, Interim Vice President and Athletic Director for the UNM Lobos. “This historic investment supports the collaborative efforts of 505SVF and UNM Athletics and is pivotal to our ability to provide our coaches and players with the competitive advantages they need to succeed at the conference and national levels.”

As the first business to support the Lobo Alliance at this level, SLFCU is playing a leading role in growing the Lobo Alliance’s corporate partnership program.

“UNM is one of Albuquerque and New Mexico’s greatest assets, and its impact is felt throughout the Southwest and U.S.,” continued Sherrodd. “At SLFCU, our mission is to act as the economic engine of the Southwest. In addition to our core products and offerings, being an active member of our community and giving back is a critical part of how we create opportunity and prosperity.”

“We are truly grateful for SLFCU’s incredible generosity. They care deeply about this community, and their decision to make a leadership gift at this level not only impacts the lives of our current student-athletes but is helping shape the future of Lobo Athletics,” said Jalen Dominquez, UNM Interim Deputy Athletic Director and Lobo Club Executive Director. “The Lobo Alliance will play a critical role in the direction of our programs and our department, and we are lucky to have a partner like SLFCU at the forefront of this effort.”
