Reliant Credit Union continues its mission to help students in the Finger Lakes put their best feet forward! Reliant recently donated 86 pairs of sneakers to Girls on the Run of Greater Rochester. Girls on the Run is a nonprofit organization that empowers young girls through programs that combine running with life skills development. The program focuses on building confidence, promoting healthy lifestyles, and fostering emotional and social growth.
This is the fifth donation this year for Reliant’s Feet Forward program, a special community effort Reliant created in 2016, through which the credit union partners with area schools and organizations to provide quality sneakers to kids who need them. For the fifth year in a row, Reliant is collaborating with Jonathan Griffiths, owner of Rochester Running Company, who helped facilitate the credit union’s purchase of an array of high-quality sneakers so that the credit union could donate them to children who otherwise wouldn’t have access to quality footwear.
“Reliant’s Feet Forward program empowers young people in our community by providing quality sneakers to help them flourish,” said Pamela Heald, President & CEO of Reliant. “We have been proud sponsors of Girls on the Run of Greater Rochester for many years, and being able to donate sneakers through our Feet Forward program this year felt like the perfect fit—allowing us to support physical health while also fostering inner strength and emotional growth in local runners.”
Since Reliant started Feet Forward in 2016, the credit union has donated 2,458 pairs of sneakers—a total investment of over $73,000 to help local children.
Rochester Running Company owner, Jonathan Griffiths, and Reliant representatives presented the sneakers to coaches and students throughout the Greater Rochester area, including Kelly Fisher, Executive Director of Girls on the Run of Greater Rochester. “Girls on the Run of Greater Rochester is so grateful to Reliant Credit Union for providing high quality running sneakers from the Rochester Running Company to girls enrolled in our program that are in need. Through Reliant’s Feet Forward program, we can ensure all girls have the proper footwear needed to train for and complete their end of season 5K celebration,” said Ms. Fisher. “This support significantly impacts the girls and their families in such a positive and meaningful way! Reliant has been a long-time sponsor and supporter of our organization, and we are thrilled to further our partnership. What a joy it was to witness the smiles on the girls’ faces as they put on their new sneakers!”
