Raiz FCU gives back for the Thanksgiving holiday

El Paso, TX (November 27, 2024) |

As Thanksgiving approaches, there may be one thing on your mind – waking up on Thursday morning to delicious smells wafting throughout the house, knowing you are in for a day of feasting, but this is not the reality for everyone. Some families struggle to put a Thanksgiving dinner on their table. In a commitment to uplift all community members, Raiz Federal Credit Union is taking steps to give back this holiday season, ensuring that more families can enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner.

Last week, Raiz participated in the third annual Vetsgiving, a drive-thru event hosted by the Military Veteran Peer Network to provide service members, Veterans, and families with a Thanksgiving food basket.  Raiz began participating in the cause in 2022, providing turkeys for the distributed baskets. Since then, Raiz has contributed over $1,300 in the past three years to cover the expenses of turkeys for these families, and Raiz staff have donated time to distribute the baskets during the event. These baskets included gift cards to cover the cost of perishable items and a bag with all the ingredients necessary to make the delicious sides and fixings that give a family of four a full Thanksgiving meal.

As part of the ongoing holiday initiatives, Raiz partnered with Veteran’s One Stop to donate nine Thanksgiving baskets to students at Bowie High School, along with enough food to provide a class with a complete Thanksgiving lunch. Raiz also sponsored the KLAQ 95.5 FM and 93.1 KISS FM Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaway, providing six underserved families with packages including turkey, ham, stuffing, green beans, and more.

Thanks to everyone’s efforts, nearly 200 families in our community will now have a Thanksgiving meal this year. Guided by its core values to empower, impact, and uplift, the credit union takes additional time during the holiday season to volunteer, give back, and remind others who are fortunate enough to do the same.
