PSCU, the nation's leading credit union service organization, returned for the second year as the venue host for the WITI 3rd Annual Geek Glam Runway show held Oct. 6, 2015 at PSCU's St. Petersburg, Fla., headquarters. WITI (Women in Technology International) helps women advance by providing access to, and support from, other professional women working in all sectors of technology.
WITI is the premier global organization that helps tech-savvy women reach their professional goals. With a global network of smart, talented women and a market reach exceeding 2 million, WITI (Women in Technology International) has established powerful strategic alliances and programs to provide connections, resources and opportunities within a supportive environment of women committed to helping each other. WITI's mission is to empower women worldwide to achieve unimagined possibilities and transformations through technology, leadership and economic prosperity.
Geek Glam is the capstone networking event for women IT professionals. It features a runway show, local vendors for shopping, entertainment and a silent auction and is sponsored by some of the premier technology organizations in the Tampa area, including Accenture, HSN, Tampa Bay Technology Forum and Veredus, to name a few.
This year's theme was RESET. WITI and its supporting sponsors empower women to reset the concept of what being a woman in the technology sector means. A portion of the event's proceeds will fund a technology scholarship to qualifying women studying at St. Petersburg College who aim to reset their lives. WITI hopes to increase the ratio of women in technology and technology leadership roles.
Geek Glam 2015 featured six models from PSCU and the local Tampa Bay area walking the runway and wearing the latest outfits from White House | Black Market and Chico's. The show included a meet-and-greet for attendees with PSCU's IT professionals; beverages and snacks; music with a live DJ; a Tech Station by Apple; door prizes; and a silent auction of gift baskets. The event raised $5,800 for a scholarship at St. Petersburg College.
WITI Tampa leaders emceed the show with remarks from the Dean of SPC Technology, Sharon Setterlind, who gave an overview of their programs and the need for more women in technology, and PSCU¹s Vice President of Enterprise Analytics and Business Intelligence Suzanne LaProva, who spoke about her IT career.
