President Obama recognizes International Credit Union Day
WASHINGTON, DC (October 21, 2016) — President Barack Obama issued a special message to all those celebrating International Credit Union Day on October 20, 2016. The President’s message, which can be found here, was made possible as a direct result of the CUNA/League system’s advocacy efforts.
“I thank President Obama for honoring credit unions and recognizing the important work credit unions do in their communities which have helped to strengthen our country,” said Jim Nussle, CUNA president/CEO. “International Credit Union Day is an opportunity to remind credit unions across the nation about the importance of what they do, why they do it, and who they do it for. I could not be more pleased that our President has acknowledged the significance of credit unions today.”

Credit unions were born out of the idea that we can derive strength from our unity. For generations, they have enabled people across our country to access financial services while contributing to the life of their community. On International Credit Union Day, we celebrate the ways these institutions have strengthened our Nation – whether through enabling Americans to save for retirement or take out a loan for the small business they have been dreaming about. And we recommit to ensuring that our people are equipped with the resources they need to foster growth and prosperity in this great country we call home.
