Pittsburgh Area CEO Given State’s Top Credit Union Professional Award

HARRISBURG, PA (May 21, 2013) The Pennsylvania Credit Union Association (PCUA) awarded David Ackerman, President and CEO of USX Federal Credit Union headquartered in Cranberry Township, with the William W. Pratt Lifetime Achievement Award for the 2013 Credit Union Professional of the Year. The award was presented during the gala banquet at the PCUA 79th Annual Convention & Exposition on May 18 in Hershey.

For more than 28 years, Ackerman has been active in the credit union movement. In 1985, he served as a Director at Aurora Earthmover Credit Union. Two years later, he was named Chief Financial Officer. In 1999, Ackerman was named the President and CEO of USX Federal Credit Union in Pittsburgh. Under his leadership, USX Federal Credit Union has seen growth in asset size, additional branch locations, new sponsor employee groups, and great membership growth.

Professionally, Ackerman is a Certified Public Accountant. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington and a master’s in Accountancy Science from Northern Illinois University. Ackerman has served as a Board Member of the Pennsylvania Credit Union Foundation since 2006, serving as Vice Chairman since 2009. He serves as the Chairman of the Foundation’s Grants Committee, and served on the original Haiti Task Force.

Ackerman’s passion for the credit union motto of People Helping People® is demonstrated not only in his professional life, but also personal life. As the treasurer of Allison Park Church, he uses his professional skills to assist his church’s needs, and serves on the Network of Hope’s advisory Board. In addition, Dave has taken several mission trips overseas, including providing assistance to the credit unions and people of Haiti.

“We were pleased to recognize Dave’s career and commitment to the credit union movement during our annual convention,” said PCUA President/CEO Jim McCormack.  “Dave embodies the true spirit of People Helping People.”

The Professional of the Year Award is presented in memory of William W. Pratt, who for more than three decades worked on behalf of credit unions. When Pratt began working at the Association in 1942, there were 550 credit unions in Pennsylvania – when he retired in 1965, there were nearly 1,300 credit unions in the Commonwealth.

Credit unions are financial cooperatives that provide affordable financial services to help their owner/members. The Harrisburg-based Pennsylvania Credit Union Association is a trade association that provides legislative, promotional, educational, and operational support for more than 400 credit unions in Pennsylvania. These credit unions have assets in excess of $37 billion and serve more than 3.7 million members.
