Philadelphia Federal Credit Union teaches financial preparedness to students, young professionals working toward employment

PFCU offers banking, credit, budgeting and financial seminars at local career-focused programs for area youth

As part of its ongoing commitment to help Philadelphia residents reach their financial goals, Philadelphia Federal Credit Union (PFCU) recently led financial preparedness workshops at two local programs that are helping to prepare area students and young professionals for future employment. PFCU partnered with JEVS Human Services Project WOW and Pennsylvania CareerLink to host seminars to empower and encourage students and young professionals to prepare for their financial futures and independence.

PFCU hosted a two-day series at Orleans Technical College with JEVS Human Services Project Wow (World of Work), a nonprofit program, for students on February 2 and 27. Those who attended the seminar – many of whom are working towards receiving a GED certificate or developing trade-specific skills – met and spoke with Erin Ellis, PFCU’s Accredited Financial Counselor, to learn about personal finance best practices and ask questions about establishing good credit, managing bank accounts, creating an emergency savings planning, in addition to setting and achieving savings goals for the future. Ellis also conducted a three-hour finance seminar on February X and X to provide Pennsylvania CareerLink students and young professionals with in-depth banking, budgeting and savings skills.

“As these young people prepare to enter the working world, it’s important that they understand the basics of personal finance,” said Ellis. “Many of these students already have a vision of what personal financial independence means and looks like for them. These seminars provide the actual building blocks for those financial goals and dreams to be brought to life. Our PFCU family takes pride in the opportunity to help these students strive for and achieve that independence.”
