Peoples Advantage announces its service philanthropic extension, Peoples Advantage Helping Hands and its first Executive Director, Shanika McClelland

Peoples Advantage Federal Credit Union (PAFCU) announces its philanthropic  extension to the Credit Union, Peoples Advantage Helping Hands (PAHH), the 501(c)3 to serve as the  backbone to fill financial gaps that negatively impact historically marginalized community members. As a  certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), PAFCU aims to meet the needs of  communities that are often challenged with lower income levels and neglected by mainstream financial  services. This extension will allow the credit union to partner with PAHH to expand access to free  financial coaches and new loan products designed to build wealth in the community.  

Peoples Advantage Helping Hands has also announced the esteemed Shanika McClelland as its first  executive director. McClelland joined the team after serving two years at Local Initiatives Support  Corporation (LISC), Virginia as program officer of wealth and community development. Her commitment  to creating economic impact in underserved communities aligns with the mission of the Credit Union and  newly established nonprofit bringing a wealth of experience to make a positive impact through strategic  philanthropy. McClelland will oversee strategic development, grant writing, fundraising and financial  education for the nonprofit.

Shanika is perfect to lead our nonprofit to  make a meaningful difference in our community.” 

McClelland’s accomplishments include the development and management of an award-winning  transportation program, opening a high-functioning Financial Opportunity Center that served Richmond’s  northside and leading the Richmond region in community development programs. 

McClelland holds a Bachelor of Art in Communication and Media Studies from Ball State University.
