Pelican State Credit Union announces National Credit Union Youth Month celebrations

BATON ROUGE, LA (April 21, 2021) — Pelican is thrilled to participate in National Credit Union Youth Month once again this year as it continues to display its commitment to the financial wellness of not only its members, but all of the future leaders in the communities it serves. Credit Union Youth Month serves as a collaborative effort to encourage children across the country to develop healthy saving habits through fun and educational activities.

The credit union kicked off its National Credit Union Youth Month celebrations by hosting a virtual Financial Wellness Workshop where 50 attendees learned all about how to talk to their children about finances.

During the workshop, guests received tips about how to teach their children effective money management methods and learned more about topics such as the credit union’s School Branch Program, School Pride Debit Cards, and Team Pelican Scholarship Awards. Guests that may have missed the workshop can watch the full webinar recording on the credit union’s website.

In addition to the workshop, Pelican provided more youth education resources to parents and their children such as:

• Releasing a blog post about the benefits of having a youth savings account on the credit union’s official blog, Pelican State of Mind
• Sharing a story time video featuring Pelican Credit Counselor Kimberly Gaines on the credit union’s Facebook page
• Hosting a Mad City Money virtual simulation for 11th and 12th graders with Pelican Credit Counselor Rhoda Hundley

Throughout the rest of April, Pelican will continue to celebrate National Credit Union Youth Month through various activities such as a “Save, Spend, and Share” recorded presentation, fun activity sheets, and more.

All celebrations are and will be available to view or download via pelicanstatecu.com or Pelican’s official Facebook page.
