OnPoint Community Credit Union’s 2013 Prize for Excellence in Education accepting nominations through April 15, 2013

Fourth annual contest to award nearly $40,000 to local educators and their schools, including paying the mortgages of two winners for one school year

PORTLAND, OR (February 15, 2013) — OnPoint Community Credit Union has announced details of the 2013 OnPoint Prize for Excellence in Education. The fourth annual contest will award nearly $40,000 to deserving public and private K-12 teachers and their schools, including paying the mortgage of two winning teachers for one school year.

Last year, Elizabeth Webber-Mikaele, a Hudson’s Bay High School counselor, was named Educator of the Year. OnPoint paid Webber-Mikaele’s mortgage for one year and made a donation to Hudson’s Bay High School for resources and supplies. Webber-Mikaele was recognized for her work developing a comprehensive attendance program, a College and Scholarship Prep Boot Camp, and the Back on Track Alternative School for at-risk students.

The 2013 OnPoint Prize for Excellence in Education will recognize one K-8 teacher and one 9-12 teacher as Educators of the Year, paying their respective mortgages for one school year and donating $1000 to their schools. In addition, one K-8 teacher and one 9-12 teacher will be Finalists and will each receive $500 for themselves and $500 for their schools. The winners will be announced May 22, 2013.

As a credit union founded by teachers 80 years ago, OnPoint continues to recognize that strengthening local education is one of the best ways to build thriving communities. “Our annual OnPoint Prize award celebrates extraordinary teachers whose work sparks enthusiasm and passion in students and their parents,” says OnPoint’s President and CEO Rob Stuart. “This award is an opportunity to recognize educators who make a difference in the lives of students and the communities where we live.”
