NLCUP celebrates industry leaders with prestigious awards at NLCUP 2024 Conference

SAN ANTONIO, TX (September 30, 2024)At this year’s NLCUP 2024 Conference, the National Association of Latino Credit Unions and Professionals (NLCUP) proudly recognized eight leaders for their extraordinary contributions to the credit union industry. From emerging leaders to longtime advocates, these individuals embody the spirit of innovation, leadership, and community engagement that drives the credit union movement forward.

Among those honored was Cristina Garza, who received the Advocacy Champion Award for her tireless efforts in representing the credit union movement’s interests in legislative and regulatory matters. Her commitment to advancing cooperative principles and protecting members’ rights stands as a powerful example of dedicated advocacy within the industry.

The Community Leader Award was presented to Alex Gallardo, whose deep engagement with the local community has fostered strong relationships between the credit union, its members, and numerous local organizations. His leadership highlights the vital role credit unions play in supporting and uplifting communities.

Recognized for his unwavering support and collaborative spirit, Zachary Christensen was honored with the Credit Union Ally Award. His contributions have helped advanced the success of the credit union movement and positively impacted its members and communities.

Rising star Alfredo Martinez was celebrated with the Emerging Leader Award for his leadership potential and commitment to credit union values early in his career. Martinez’s work positions him as a future leader set to drive growth and community impact within the industry.

Megan Snyder received the Excellence in NLCUP Membership Award for her active engagement within the NLCUP community, demonstrating exceptional collaboration on initiatives and a persistent dedication to the organization’s values.

The Legacy Leader Award was bestowed upon Diana Cervantes, honoring her visionary leadership and the lasting impact she has made on the credit union movement and the communities it serves. Cervantes’s long-term contributions will continue to inspire future generations.

Jennifer Oliver, recognized with the Visionary Trail Blazer Award, was celebrated for her pioneering initiatives that have left a mark on the credit union movement. Her visionary leadership has paved the way for future innovation within the industry.

Finally, the Spirit of Hope Award was awarded to Embajador Ricardo Santana Velázquez, acknowledging his significant contributions outside the credit union industry. Velázquez’s collaborative efforts have empowered the Latino community and advanced the work that credit unions do in fostering positive change.

Through these awards, NLCUP continues to spotlight leaders who exemplify the values of progress, advocacy, and community engagement. Each honoree plays an instrumental role in shaping the future of the credit union movement and creating lasting impacts in their communities.

Supported by the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions, the Network of Latino Credit Unions and Professionals was incorporated in April 2006 to provide a forum to advocate for Latino economic inclusion in the credit union movement. This work includes promotion of credit union membership, access to financial services, asset building, financial education, and professional leadership development. The group also aims to develop a network of credit union institutions to support economic development in Latino communities.
