Secured Advantage Federal Credit Union is ushing a new era of growth with the appointment of Katia Marini-Nunez as chief executive officer. Bringing a deep passion for financial inclusion and a bold vision for expanding the credit union’s mission, she is committed to empowering low-income individuals and underserved communities with the tools they need to build a more secure financial future.
Marini-Nunez joined Secured Advantage in 2022 and has served as interim CEO for the past year. Prior to joining Secured Advantage, she served in several executive-level roles within the credit union industry, including the helms of St. Francis, Turbine and BIP credit unions between 2010 and 2023.
Under her leadership, Secured Advantage has expanded access to affordable financial services and lending programs – such as the credit builder Starter Loan – as she aims to break down barriers that keep hardworking individuals form achieving financial stability. Long term, the credit union seeks to obtain Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) certification – a move that would further strengthen the credit union’s ability to serve those who need it most.
“Credit unions have the power to change lives, and financial security should be within reach for everyone,” she said. “We are not just providing accounts and loans; we are creating opportunities, building trust, and empowering our members to take control of their financial futures.”
Earlier this month, Secured Advantage announced a financial literacy partnership with Job Connection, the employment training program of Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina. The program has long been dedicated to helping individuals overcome barriers to employment by providing career development, job placement assistance, and essential skills training.
