Navigant Credit Union helps shred 24,000+ pounds of sensitive documents during cybersecurity month

‘Community Shred Events’ were hosted at five Navigant Credit Union branch locations in October to help Rhode Islanders better protect their personal data

To mark National Cybersecurity Month and encourage Rhode Islanders to safely dispose of sensitive documents, Navigant Credit Union helped shred and recycle more than 24,000 pounds of paperwork during five “Community Shred Events” hosted at its local branch locations in October.

Hosted in partnership with ShredRI, Navigant Credit Union’s shred events were held in Central Falls, North Kingstown, North Smithfield, Riverside and Smithfield in early October. During these events, all Rhode Islanders – regardless of whether they are Navigant Credit Union members – were invited to drop off their personal or professional documents to be shredded and recycled. These services were offered free of charge.

“Properly destroying potentially sensitive documents is a simple and extremely effective precaution individuals and businesses can take to mitigate the threat of identify theft, fraud and other financial schemes,” said Navigant Credit Union President / CEO Kathy Orovitz. “We were proud to offer Rhode Islanders these free, professional services through our Community Shred Events in October, and we look forward to continuing to play our part in helping our members and our neighbors across the state better protect their data and hard-earned assets.”

In total, Navigant Credit Union shredded 24,320 pounds of documents across its five community events. This was Navigant Credit Union’s first-ever series of Community Shred Events; the institution plans to schedule additional, similar events in the future.
