MSGCU Partners with a Second State Representative to Promote Financial Education

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI (April 19, 2013) - Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union (MSGCU) has added a second presentation as part of the Michigan Credit Union League’s (MCUL) 10th Annual Financial Literacy Legislative Challenge, where credit unions across the state are partnered with local lawmakers to promote financial education in the community. MSGCU will partner with Marilyn Lane of District 31 for the presentation “Surviving After High School” at Fraser High School in Fraser, Mich. on Monday, April 29, from 7:30-8:30 a.m.

“Money management changes dramatically after high school,” said Shannon McIntosh, Consumer Education Specialist at MSGCU. “Between college, having a job and paying bills or rent, there are a lot more financial responsibilities once you graduate. This fun and interactive presentation will give these teens a great perspective on how to handle a budget.”

The local credit union will also present with Representative Anthony Forlini of District 24 in Macomb Township to present at Iroquois Middle School in Macomb Township on Monday, April 22 from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. MSGCU and Representative Forlini will speak with three eighth grade classes on the importance of money management.

“Middle school is a critical age when it comes to financial education,” said McIntosh. “In just a few years, these children will start earning income and eventually have checking accounts and credit cards. This session will be very beneficial for them, because good money habits today turn into prosperous futures tomorrow.”
