Monterra Credit Union closes for Indigenous Peoples’ Day to serve the community in acts of compassion

Redwood City, CA (November 26, 2024) |

In honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day, Monterra Credit Union closed its branches and back office, transforming the day into a powerful opportunity for community service. Team members gathered to assemble over 200 hygiene kits and create more than 50 no-sew blankets for distribution to local nonprofit organizations. These much-needed supplies will support vulnerable populations in San Mateo County as winter approaches.

The hygiene kits and blankets will be donated to two community organizations, Samaritan House and Service League of San Mateo County. These donations are part of Monterra Credit Union’s ongoing commitment to building a stronger, more compassionate community.

“As the weather turns colder, we’re reminded of the importance of community support for those who are most vulnerable,” said Wade Painter, President and CEO of Monterra Credit Union. “We are proud to dedicate Indigenous Peoples' Day to honor and support people in our community. It’s an opportunity for our team to come together in unity and compassion, which reflects the spirit of the day and of Monterra.”

Samaritan House has been leading the fight against poverty in San Mateo County for 50 years and is grateful for the support. “Monterra’s service day embodies what it means to stand with those who need us most,” shared Jenny Knopf, Director of Volunteer Engagement, Children’s and Seasonal Services of Samaritan House. “Their thoughtful contributions of hygiene kits and blankets provide comfort and dignity to those who may be facing their toughest days.”

The Service League of San Mateo County plays an essential role in supporting individuals and families impacted by incarceration, providing critical resources for reintegration and stability. “This partnership with Monterra Credit Union demonstrates the power of community action,” said Karen Francone, Executive Director of the Service League of San Mateo County. “These hygiene kits and blankets will make a profound difference for the individuals we serve as we prepare for the colder season.”

Monterra Credit Union believes in the power of collective action to uplift the community and inspire lasting change. By dedicating time to community service, organizations can create a ripple effect of support and compassion, transforming lives and fostering resilience in those facing difficult circumstances. When we come together, we can address urgent needs and build a stronger, more caring community for all.
