Michigan’s Credit Unions Donate $126,000 to CMN Hospitals

Flint, Mich. – Representatives from several Michigan credit unions, the Michigan Credit Union League & Affiliates (MCUL), Hurley Children’s Hospital, and one very special miracle child were on hand recently for the presentation of a $125,884.80 donation from the Michigan credit union community to Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.

The money was raised by credit unions and MCUL through a charity golf outing, live and silent auctions, candy bar sales, casual dress days, and matching funds from the Co-Op Services Miracle Match Program.

“Michigan’s credit unions have always been generous in their support of CMN hospitals through the ‘Credit Unions for Kids’ program,” said MCUL & Affiliates CEO David Adams. “This year’s total, the largest donation the Michigan credit union community has ever made to the program, is yet another testament to how much credit unions give back to their communities,” Adams added.

The funds will be shared between Hurley Children’s Hospital and the three other Children’s Miracle Network hospitals in Michigan: Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, and Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.

Two-year-old Kaidyn Lewis and his parents helped accept the gift on behalf of Hurley’s youngest patients. Kaidyn was born two months prematurely in August, 2010, weighing a mere one pound, five ounces. Thanks to the excellent care he received in Hurley’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Kaidyn is a healthy and active toddler today.

“We are so grateful for the generosity of Michigan credit unions,” said Mahesh Sharman, M.D., pediatric critical care director at Hurley Children’s Hospital. “These funds will be used by Michigan’s CMN hospitals to continue to provide medically advanced programs and facilities that offer young patients like Kaidyn the best care possible.”

CMN is dedicated to raising funds for affiliated children’s hospitals in the United States and Canada. CMN-affiliated hospitals treat all children, regardless of their parents’ ability to pay.

Nationwide, credit unions are the third-largest sponsor of CMN Hospitals through the Credit Unions for Kids program.
