Bob Cooper has served on the Members First Board for 26 years.

MIDLAND, MI (April 21, 2025) |

Members First Credit Union (M1) proudly announces the retirement of its Board Chair, Bob Cooper, after 26 years of exceptional leadership. Under Cooper’s guidance, the credit union has transformed from a small cooperative of teachers into a thriving financial institution serving over 66,000 members across Michigan.

When Cooper joined the Board, Members First managed $100 million in assets, operated two branches in Midland, and served 10,000 members. Today, the credit union operates 11 branches, manages $850 million in assets, and continues to empower its members through financial wellbeing.

Reflecting on his tenure, Cooper shared, “It has been a privilege to serve this incredible credit union and witness its growth. What stands out most to me isn’t just the numbers—it’s the community we’ve built and the lives we’ve impacted along the way.”

During Cooper’s leadership, Members First earned national recognition, including being named one of American Banker’s Best Credit Unions to Work For two years in a row and receiving the “Best of the Best” designation for online banking services.

“Bob has been a driving force behind the credit union’s success,” said Kevin Brott, incoming Board Chair. “His dedication to our members and team has left a lasting legacy, and I am honored to continue building on that foundation.”

Brott brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to M1’s mission of spreading joy and fostering financial well-being. He has served on the Board of Directors at Members First Credit Union for over forty years and is currently the Vice-Chair. He is the Executive Director of New Dawn Shelter of Gladwin County and retired from teaching after 30 years. The credit union is excited to continue its strong trajectory under his guidance. For more information about the Members First Credit Union Board of Directors and volunteer opportunities, visit www.mfcu.net/leadership.
