MCUL Adds Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative to Education & Events Offerings

LANSING, MI (February 22, 2013) - It’s no secret the educational events put on by the Michigan Credit Union League & Affiliates are renowned for their informative value and engaging style. Now, you can add generosity and social responsibility to the list of attributes.

At the recent Lending and Marketing Conference in Grand Rapids, participants were encouraged to bring donations of canned goods, toiletries and pet supplies in support of Feeding America West Michigan through the West Michigan Food Bank. Attendees were asked to collect those items from their co-workers, members, and chapters prior to the conference and bring them to Grand Rapids so that they could be distributed to those in need in west Michigan communities.

The call was more than answered in the form of more than 71 pounds of foods, which when combined with the cash donations will provide 223 meals for those in need.

“This is just one of many ways in which the Michigan credit union community is working to make the state a better place,” said MCUL & Affiliates CEO Dave Adams. “We hope to make this sort of ‘leave behind’ initiative a regular part of our conference and event lineup.”

Along with the food bank donation, Michigan credit unions have a long history of collective community service. Last year, MCUL & Affiliates joined with more than a dozen credit unions and two chapters to take part in the National Kidney Foundation’s Kidney Walk at the Detroit Zoo, and contributed $85,000 to that cause. In November of 2012, the Michigan credit union community made its largest ever donation to Children’s Miracle Network hospitals, presenting a check for $125,000 to CMN.
