Mainstreet Credit Union Merges in Bonner Springs Federal Credit Union; Brings Additional Benefits to Members and the Community

Lenexa, Kan. (Jan. 10, 2013) – Mainstreet Credit Union announced it has completed a merger with Bonner Springs Federal Credit Union, located at 301 Oak Street in Bonner Springs, Kan.  By combining, the credit unions’ members will be served by 10 branch locations throughout the metropolitan area. Mainstreet CU also offers a broader array of financial products and services, including convenience resources, such as OnlineAccess and PhoneAccess, and use of almost 30,000 surcharge-free ATMs nationwide.

Mainstreet Credit Union is a Lenexa-based financial cooperative serving nearly 60,000 members. In addition to the new Bonner Springs site, its branch locations include two in Olathe and Lawrence, and one in Lenexa, Mission, Leavenworth, and Kansas City, Kan. and Kansas City, Mo.

The official merger date was Oct. 31, 2012, and on Jan. 1, members of Bonner Springs Federal Credit Union had full access to all of Mainstreet Credit Union’s branches, products and services. Among the programs not available before but now offered through Mainstreet are online bill payment, investment planning, a broader local ATM network, and free access to nearly 30,000 ATMs nationwide. Members from Bonner Springs will continue to see familiar faces, as employees of the former Credit Union remain in place.

“Today’s economy, changing regulations and consumers’ desire for mobile accessibility makes it more difficult for smaller institutions to compete in the marketplace,” said John Beverlin, President/CEO of Mainstreet Credit Union. “We welcome our new members from Bonner Springs Federal Credit Union and look forward to providing them the high-quality service and financial products they need.”

Over the past few years, Mainstreet Credit Union has experienced growth in size and membership through mergers with Free State Credit Union in Lawrence, Leavenworth Teachers’ and Community Credit Union in Leavenworth, Faith Financial Federal Credit Union in Kansas City, North, and Wyandotte Credit Union. Mainstreet Credit Union’s assets now stand at $325 million.
