Raleigh, NC, November 1 – At its recent Annual Meeting in Greensboro, NC, State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) honored two long-term member-volunteers, Elwood Copeland of Elizabeth City, and Roy High of Raleigh, for their tremendous contributions to the Credit Union mission. Both gentleman have been members of SECU for over fifty years and have dedicated a combined sixty-four years of service to their fellow members and the credit union industry. A tribute video highlighting each honoree’s volunteer experience and service was shown during the meeting. Following the video, SECU Board of Directors Chair McKinley Wooten presented framed Board Resolutions to the recipients in recognition of their accomplishments, loyalty and dedication to the Credit Union.
Elwood Copeland has served as an Advisory Board member for the past 17 years, and as a loyal advocate, has played an instrumental role in helping the Credit Union stay connected to its membership through the distribution of Credit Union information to member groups in the Elizabeth City, NC area. “The Advisory Board is really a vital link between members and the Credit Union,” comments Copeland. “Letting people be advised about what the Credit Union is doing is very important --- it provides a better understanding of how the cooperative operates on behalf of its members.”
As a dedicated Loan Review Committee (LRC) member since 2001, Roy High has served to advance the financial position of his fellow members by ensuring fair and equal review of member loan appeals, demonstrating the Credit Union’s working principle of “Do the Right Thing.” “The loan appeal process is geared toward helping the member, with fellow members volunteering to review and make loan appeal decisions on their behalf,” remarked High.
Both High and Copeland’s commitment to the credit union industry is evidenced through their professional careers as public servants. As former Administrator of the North Carolina Credit Union Division and past President of Local Government Federal Credit Union, Roy High’s leadership in the industry has been influential to North Carolina’s credit union movement. Elwood Copeland also served the State of North Carolina as an employee of the Department of Transportation, making a positive impact in local communities, while also promoting the Credit Union philosophy of “People Helping People.”
