LAFCU welcomed its newest members at an open house July 13 that officially opened the former Lansing Postal Community Credit Union (LPCCU) headquarters as LAFCU’s Collins Road Branch.
“The former LPCCU Board of Directors chose a strong partner when we agreed to merge with LAFCU,” said Jason Smith, former LPCCU CEO/general manager, now LAFCU vice president of product and strategy. “We have been welcomed into the LAFCU family at every opportunity, and are focused on continuing the same high-quality care LPCCU members have come to expect.”
LPCCU’s merger with LAFCU began December 2017 and was effective July 1, 2018. LPCCU was founded in 1928 and was the first credit union in the Lansing area. Consolidation of postal services led to a significant decrease in the number of area employees, which hindered LPCCU’s ability to grow.
The former LPCCU building at 4600 Collins Road, near I-27 and Dunckel Road in southeast Lansing, is LAFCU’s 10th branch. Updates have been made inside and out.
LAFCU CEO Patrick Spyke said, “We couldn’t be happier that LPCCU chose LAFCU. We will continue to honor the legacy of LPCCU as we provide innovative financial products and exemplary service to our newest members.
“I want to personally thank the LPCCU members who had faith that we will meet their future financial needs, and thank the LPCCU board; its former CEO, Jason Smith; and Angie Ruzinsky, LAFCU regional vice president, and many others who all diligently worked to make the merger process seamless for our members.”
Former LPCCU members have access to LAFCU’s expanded financial services, such as its comprehensive suite of mortgage products, and to LAFCU’s unique financial technology applications. These include fraud monitoring, a mobile banking app, interactive teller machines (ITMs), Smart Offices connecting branches with LAFCU headquarters via audio and visual communication, and a digital invoicing-and-payment accounting tool for businesses.
There are 25 LAFCU-branded ATMs, and members have access to nearly 30,000 surcharge-free ATMs in the CO-OP ATM network and 5,000 CO-OP Shared Branches across the country.
LAFCU now has 63,000 members and total assets of nearly $690 million. It can accept members from anywhere in Michigan.

Patrick Spyke and Jason Smith cut the ribbon to officially open LAFCU’s newest branch, located at 4600 Collins Road, Lansing, the former headquarters of Lansing Postal Community Credit Union.
