Kinecta Federal Credit Union to distribute hundreds of backpacks filled with school supplies to local families on Saturday, Aug. 7th

On average, local families spend over $200 per student each academic year on supplies, kinecta hopes to ease the financial burden.

WHAT:  For the 12th straight year, Kinecta employees rallied to donate and collect new school supplies for underserved students to get off to a great start for the school year. Last year, The organization collected $3800 in monetary donations during the backpack drive. The funds were used to purchase school supplies and 600 backpacks for hundreds of families and community partners.

WHO:    Kinecta representatives will host the distribution event. Scheduled to attend the festivities are Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán, Representative of California’s 44th District,  prominent Watts activist and Parents of Watts founder, “Sweet Alice” Harris, Carson City Councilman Jawane Hilton and LA Galaxy Forward, Cameron Dunbar. Kinecta’s 2021 “Back-to-School Backpack Challenge” supports children from the following organizations:

  • Al Wooten Jr. Youth Center
  • Boys & Girls Club of Carson
  • Community’s Child
  • Covenant House
  • Environmental Charter Schools
  • GRYD Foundation
  • LAPD Southeast Station Community
  • Operation Progress
  • Parents of Watts
  • Richstone Family Center
  • St. Albert the Great School
  • Thomas House Family Shelter
  • Watts/Century Latino Organization

The event will also feature free frozen treats from Kinecta’s popular ice cream truck
