Houston Chapter of Credit Unions Step Up for 2012 Holiday Toy Drive

Houston, Texas – A lot of children in the greater Houston area were smiling this past holiday season thanks to the Houston Chapter of Credit Unions.  Houston area credit unions joined forces to help collect over 25,700 toys for the KHOU Channel 11 “Spirit of Texas Toy Drive” benefiting the Salvation Army.  “That number is in large part due to some wonderful big donations, like that from the Houston Area Credit Unions” said Rebecca Cantu at KHOU 11.   “The overall drive saw a 3% increase over 2011 totals.”  Toys were donated by employees, members, family, and friends at credit unions throughout the Greater Houston Area.

“Teaming up with the KHOU Channel 11 Spirit of Texas Toy Drive for such a worthy cause really benefits our community and can make a huge difference in a child’s holiday”, said Sonia Hartman, Assistant Controller at Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union and Community Involvement Chairperson for Houston Chapter of Credit Unions.  The toy drive is one of many efforts the Chapter supports the community and enhances the quality of life in the Greater Houston Area.

Hartman said that “a special thanks is owed to Enterprise Car Sales, who picked up the toys from credit union drop off sites throughout the city of Houston”  and that “Enterprise is a great partner and Houston Chapter appreciates their help!”

The Houston Chapter of Credit Unions provides a collaborative environment for credit union professionals and volunteers to receive education, leadership development, and grow credit union community influence.  The Houston Chapter is comprised of over 100 credit unions in the Houston metropolitan area.
