Highmark Staff Cook Up Donation for Volunteers of America

Highmark volunteers use the Concession Stand at the Mother Butler Center’s Flea Market to raise $100 in donations for Volunteers of America, Dakota, Mommy’s Closet Program

Rapid City, SD, December 7, 2012 – Highmark FCU staff volunteers put their culinary skills on the line to raise money for Volunteers of America’s Mommy’s Closet program. The concession stand operated by staff from Highmark Federal Credit Union, for the monthly flea market at the Mother Butler Center, on Saturday, December 1, netted a total of $100.00 for Mommy’s Closet program, Volunteers of America-Dakotas. The staff at Highmark Federal Credit Union presented a check for $100 to Laura Neubert, Development Coordinator at Volunteers of America-Dakotas.

“Mommy’s Closet is a crisis resource program that helps families and caregivers in our community who are in need of baby supplies, infant and toddler clothing and parenting guidance as they struggle to take care of their families and raise their children," explains Neubert.  “This donation will provide many families with diapers, baby formula or other necessities for young children. Volunteers of America, Dakotas depends on the generosity of caring partners to continue to meet this need – our thanks go to the volunteers at Highmark and to the shoppers who supported their efforts by purchasing their meals from them.”

The financially conscious group of credit union volunteers served Breakfast Tortillas, Biscuits & Gravy to start the day of gift shoppers at the Flea Market and phased into Sloppy Joes by lunch-time. Their culinary skills paid off because they ran out of all meals by the time the flea market closed mid-afternoon.
