HFS Federal Credit Union expands scholarship program

Hilo, HI (January 6, 2025) |

HFS Federal Credit Union understands the growing needs of its members and community and continually seeks to provide services and benefits to meet those needs. This includes offering solutions for students preparing to go to college and the challenges they face. In response to the need for more assistance to fund higher education, HFS has increased the number of scholarships to be awarded from fifteen (15) to twenty (20) for an overall total of $60,000.

Since 2012, HFS has awarded over 110 scholarships to student members totaling over $289,000. Previous recipients and applicants have expressed their desire to pursue a college degree so they can return to the Big Island to serve the people and the land they grew up with.

Applications for the 2025 HFS Scholarship Program are now being accepted online from graduating Big Island high school seniors and current college students. This year, the Credit Union will be awarding $3,000 each to ten (10) Big Island graduating high school seniors and ten (10) current college students. A total of $60,000 will be awarded to qualified applicants who are the future contributors and leaders in our community

Student members of HFS pursuing higher education full-time at an accredited 2 or 4-year Vocational-Technical School, College, or University in the 2025 – 2026 academic year are eligible to apply. Recipients will be selected based on a variety of criteria, including academic performance, achievements, and community service.

For a complete list of requirements and to apply students may visit hfsfcu.org or inquire with their high school counselors. Completed applications with supporting documents must be submitted online at hfsfcu.awardspring.com no later than Friday, February 28, 2025.
