SPOKANE, WA – On Monday, February 18 Global Credit Union presented Margaret Asbell, Help Desk Operator, with the first annual La Liberte Community Excellence Award. The award is named in honor of one of Global’s original founders who passed away in 2011. Eugene La Liberte dedicated much of his life to community service. All employees who participate in the credit union’s community service program are eligible for the award.
Margaret, who was quite surprised at the honor, donated over 400 hours in 2012 to SCOPE (Sheriff Community Oriented Policing Effort) in the Spokane County. While accepting the award she even took the opportunity to encourage others to consider volunteering for SCOPE.
In addition to a personal desk trophy, recognition on the credit union’s lobby displays and serving on next year’s selection committee, Margaret's charity of choice will receive a donation in the amount of $500.
Global Credit Union has a long tradition of community involvement, receiving accolades for its efforts in every region it serves. Recognizing that it’s the individuals who put in much of their own time, Global recently instituted a program to recognize those employees who make significant contributions to the community. The first awards were distributed at Global’s annual Employee Conference on February 18, 2013.
The program honors employees who have volunteered a substantial number of personal hours throughout the year. Employees earn 10 points per hour of volunteer service, plus 25 bonus points when participating in a credit union sponsored charitable event.
Three employees received the Community Helping Hand award (300+ points) and receive 4 hours of paid time off:
- Linda Crane, Executive Assistant – Headquarters, Spokane WA
- Katrin Lippoldt, Finance Specialist – Headquarters, Spokane WA
- Sharon Carter, Branch Manager – Camp Darby Army Base, Tirrenia Italy
One employee received the Community Hero award (1500+ points) and receives 2 days paid time off:
- Margaret Asbell, Help Desk Operator – Headquarters, Spokane WA
