Georgia United Credit Union Urges Congressman Tom Price to Support “Don’t Tax My Credit Union”

ROSWELL, GA (August 19, 2013) -- Georgia United Credit Union representatives are visiting their U.S. Senators and Congressmen during the August Recess to personally deliver postcards received from their 120,000+ credit union members to speak out against proposed  taxed on credit unions.  The first Congressman to receive a visit from Georgia United is U.S. Representative Tom Price of the 6th District.  Georgia United’s Leadership Team members stopped by Price’s district office in Roswell on Monday, August 19 to deliver the first wave of postcards on behalf of their membership.  As of this date, 25,919 Georgia United Credit Union members have participated in this effort.

Georgia United Credit Union is joining credit unions across the country to encourage all credit union members to take action against recent legislation that proposes taxing credit unions.  Credit Unions are active partners in the communities they serve, collaborating with schools, local businesses and other organizations to foster community development.  Because credit unions are currently tax-exempt organizations, they are able to offer member-owners benefits like better loan rates, lower fees and higher returns on deposits.  Taxing credit unions would eliminate these benefits for the more than 96 million credit union members nationwide.
