Georgia Advocacy Conference brings credit unions together for a collective voice

Atlanta, GA (January 30, 2025) |

The Georgia Credit Union Association, a subsidiary of The League of Credit Unions, recently concluded the 2025 Georgia Advocacy Conference. This event brought together 100 attendees from 79 credit unions across Georgia, representing $35.6 billion in assets and more than 2.3 million members.

The conference featured a full day of engaging discussions, strategic insights, and collaboration aimed at advancing credit union initiatives and legislative priorities. Those priorities include improving the operating environment for credit unions, preserving credit union tax exemptions, protecting interchange fee income, mitigating financial fraud, and codifying electronic and/or remote online notarization (RON).

“The Georgia Advocacy Conference provided an essential platform for credit unions to come together and champion priorities that benefit their members, said Sydney Seral, Chief Advocacy Officer for The League and the Georgia Credit Union Association. “By providing opportunities for strategic engagement and leveraging our grassroots advocacy, we can drive meaningful change that strengthens our communities and ensures the sustainability of the credit union movement.”

A series of thought-provoking panel discussions featured influential leaders such as Brian Yates, Senior Director of State Government Affairs; Kevin Hagler, Commissioner, Melissa Sneed, Deputy Commissioner of Supervision, and Bo Fears, Deputy Commissioner of Legal Affairs, all from the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance; and Tharon Johnson and Brian Robinson, hosts of NPR’s Political Breakfast. These engaging sessions touched on topics such as community engagement, innovative advocacy strategies, and evolving regulatory expectations. The conversations provided attendees with practical insights and actionable takeaways to enhance their credit union operations and advocacy efforts.

“The conference was an inspiring opportunity to connect with fellow credit union leaders and gain valuable insights from industry experts,” said Chadwick Evans, Executive Vice President of Lending at Associated Credit Union. “This conference was a great reminder of the collaborative power we have as credit unions when we come together to drive positive change.”

The League is grateful to the credit unions that travelled from all corners of the Peach State to represent the industry and advocate for the credit union difference. We also sincerely thank our system partners, including this year’s title sponsor, TruStage, for their invaluable support in making this event a resounding success.
