DES MOINES, IA (October 2, 2013) -- The Iowa Credit Union League (ICUL) honored four credit union representatives at the Iowa Credit Union Convention held in Des Moines September 18-20 at the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center.
Heritage Award: Kay Beyerink, Telco Triad Community Credit Union, Sioux City

Kay Beyerink received the 2013 Heritage Award for demonstrating extraordinary commitment, service and leadership in the credit union movement. Kay has developed a reputation for being hard working, motivated and a tireless leader. Her dedication to moving the credit union industry forward is visible not only at the local level, but also at the regional and national levels as well. With more than 43 years of serving in the credit union movement, Kay has improved the financial lives of thousands, not only within her community, but across the state and nation. Professional Cooperative Spirit Award: Jim Hagerman, Linn Area Credit Union, Cedar Rapids

Jim Hagerman was presented with the 2013 Professional Cooperative Spirit Award in recognition of this outstanding service, commitment and leadership in the credit union movement. Jim’s generosity, compassion and dedication to the credit union industry have set him apart as a relentless credit union champion. Jim has held many positions on the Cedar Valley Chapter of Credit Unions’ Board and was an Iowa Corporate Central Credit Union Director for nearly 30 years, serving in a variety of positions including chairman. Jim truly believes in the power of credit union advocacy and actively participates in a variety of credit union advocacy efforts. Volunteer Cooperative Spirit Award: Marilyn Rasmussen, 1st Gateway Credit Union, Camanche

Marilyn is the 2013 recipient of the Volunteer Cooperative Spirit Award for exemplifying the spirit of the credit union industry and the communities they serve. Marilyn volunteered to fill her late husband's seat on the board of 1st Gateway Credit Union, and has served as chair of the audit committee for more than 11 years. She goes above and beyond the expectations of a credit union leader and is a shining example of the cooperative spirit. Marilyn is to be commended for her dedication to her work, but it’s especially noteworthy when done on a volunteer basis. Young Professional of the Year Award: Josh Ernst, Linn Area Credit Union, Cedar Rapids

The 2013 Young Professional of the Year Award was created to further inspire young Iowa credit union leaders who are working to build a strong future for the credit union movement. The award recognizes one outstanding young credit union professional in Iowa who is 35 years or younger. Josh Ernst is the recipient of this year’s award for demonstrating the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” every day through hard work and dedication. Josh has risen through the ranks from teller to loan officer to branch manager, while also being actively involved in credit union legislative events.
