ELGA Credit Union’s annual Ginormous Tent Sale fundraiser raises $20,000 for Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties

BURTON, MICH. (September 24, 2021) — ELGA Credit Union (ELGA) presented a $20,000 donation to Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties (Catholic Charities), proceeds from the Ginormous Tent Sale fundraiser. The annual event, taking place over Labor Day weekend each year, is a yard sale that with several tents full of donated goods. Countless volunteer hours are put in by both ELGA associates and Catholic Charities volunteers in order to make this event happen each year. The donation will support Catholic Charities’ soup kitchen, counseling programs and more.

“It’s a lot of work, but I am excited for this sale every year as it raises so much to benefit the great work of Catholic Charities – work that is making a difference for hundreds of people right here in our communities,” says Karen Church, ELGA CEO. “I am so grateful to all who play a part in making this sale happen and to the vendors who support this event, including the Limmer team from Martin Tents and the food vendors who donate a portion of their sales to Catholic Charities, as well.”

In its sixth year, the tent sale has raised $105,000 to support Catholic Charities. Donations include items from St. John’s Catholic Church in Davison and ELGA Credit Union associates. Catholic Charities and community volunteers spent several days unloading and setting up ahead of the sale.  This year, Smokin’ J’s Barbeque and Sugar Shack returned to the delight of many attendees, and Handyman Hot Dogs joined the fun. Each vendor donated 20% of their sales to Catholic Charities.
