Dow Credit Union recognized for corporate achievement

MIDLAND, MICHIGAN (August 19, 2024) — Dow Credit Union received the 2024 Partners in Growth Corporate Achievement Award at the 13th Annual Great Lakes Bay Regional Chamber Summit. This award is presented to exceptional organizations that have made significant contributions to regional growth and community development. It stands as a testament to Dow Credit Union’s unwavering commitment to the communities it serves and its ongoing dedication to fostering growth and positive impact in the Great Lakes Bay Region and beyond.

“While member service and credit union success are essential, it’s equally important to foster a sense of purpose and meaning in our work,” remarked Michael Goad, President/CEO of Dow Credit Union. “The opening line to our mission statement is that we are going to act as a ‘Multiplier for Good’, and it’s not just a line, it’s our true belief. Our employees embrace that by getting out in the community and knowing they are making an impact by helping wonderful organizations that are serving our neighbors.”

With a mission to be “Multipliers for Good”, Dow Credit Union is committed to serving the region through its dedication to member service, community investments, and support of events like the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational, Great Lakes Bay Pride, the Memorial Cup, and projects like the Shine Bright Saginaw Mural Project, as well as its 2023 investment in a new Saginaw Branch. The expansion and resulting influx of new members and assets was recently highlighted by CUInsight – a leading credit union industry media organization.

“Dow Credit Union has been great to collaborate with on behalf of Hidden Harvest,” commented Samantha McKenzie, President/CEO of Hidden Harvest. “We’re so thankful for the volunteer groups that have helped us with different projects in the warehouse, taking bulk food items and breaking them down into family-size items. And these are not just that one-off volunteer projects, but we’ve had board leadership from Dow Credit Union for years.”

Dow Credit Union supports regional education efforts, such as the Saginaw Valley State University Financial Literacy Program – a collaborative near-peer program that brings together local middle-schoolers and university students. “This is something that is desperately needed, not just in the schools, but also in communities, because these are life skills and can have an impact on the quality of life going forward,” shared Dr. Jayati Ghosh, Dean, Scott L. Carmona College of Business. “This financial literacy program is based on a near-peer methodology, which means that the faculty don’t go and teach. It’s the students, our students, who go and teach. Our students are developing themselves as mentors and future leaders, and so they are also giving back to the community.”

“It’s about more than just having a physical presence in the region, but about how we work within the communities we serve,” said LaShanta Green, Director of Marketing and Community Relations of Dow Credit Union. “As a credit union we are known for our Member Giveback, but giving back goes beyond monetary, it’s about giving back to our community and neighbors.”

The Great Lakes Bay Regional Chamber Summit is organized by the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce, Midland Business Alliance, and Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce and brings together business leaders, professionals, and community members in the region.

Previous winners include Corteva Agriscience (2023), Bavarian Inn (2022) and Three Rivers (2021).
