MADISON, Wis. — “Wow, money really does grow on trees!” “I’ve waited 40 years for this!” These were just some of the responses from folks who saw Madison’s first “Money Tree” at the Haunted Hustle Marathon Ghost Tour last Saturday at Greenway Station in Middleton.
Courtesy of Summit Credit Union’s “DoMore” Team, the 10-foot tree was located near the race finish line and was filled with 500 $1 dollar bills, complete with stickers encouraging the lucky recipients to spend the money at a local business. The first passers-by began noticing the tree at 6:30 a.m. and the last bill was enthusiastically picked off by 10 a.m.
(Editor’s note: Still photos from B-roll footage of the event are attached for use on web site channels.
Video from event will be available on Thurs., Nov. 4, at Summit’s FaceBook page: Facebook.com/SummitDoMore.)
The initiative was part of the Summit Credit Union’s “DoMore Team,” which was developed by the financial in June 2010 in order to give back to the community in a new and unique way, as well as to enhance the Summit Credit Union brand.
“It was fun to see people’s reactions to a tree filled with free money for the taking,” said Rebecca Gerothanas, senior vice president, marketing at Summit Credit Union. “The DoMore Team has truly enjoyed showcasing the Credit Union difference, which is all about people helping people, as well as making a positive impact in our communities in such
non-traditional ways.”
