CUNA’s Bill Cheney Talks Tax Fight with Banks and ACUC 2013

SAN DIEGO, CA (June 28, 2013) CUNA's 2013 America's Credit Union Conference is next week. To get a quick preview, CUbroadcast invited CUNA's President/CEO Bill Cheney on the program for an inside look on the speakers, sessions, and events occurring between June 30 - July 3 in New York City. But the ACUC is only part of the discussion, as the big show will act as a motivator and message deliverer for attendees to spread nationwide the virtues of credit unions. We all know the CU virtues, but a majority of the country doesn't. The industry is also in the midst of a major battle with banks regarding, yes once again, it's tax status. But this year is a bit different in that a new tax code will be decided upon and credit union's tax status for the next generations will be determined if not this year, then next year -- an election year.

Cheney joined our show and took the time to explain in great detail the importance for credit unions to be more than diligent in getting the word out about this issue -- much like Bank Transfer Day. Segueing on this topic, we discussed CUNA's two major campaigns running right now: "Don't Tax My Credit Union" and "Unite for Good". We also discussed many other issues along with a semi-inside look at the political maneuverings to lobby credit union issues within Congress. Fascinating content -- especially in the second half of the interview where Cheney is quite candid about this subject matter.
