CUNA Mutual Group’s Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer Named Chairman of Board of Directors for Life Insurance Organization

Steve Koslow Elected to Compliance & Ethics Forum for Life Insurers

MADISON, Wis. – Steve Koslow, SVP, chief ethics & compliance officer for CUNA Mutual Group, has been elected chairman of board of directors for the Compliance & Ethics Forum for Life Insurers (CEFLI).

“Steve has served on CEFLI’s board of directors for a number of years, and we’re so proud he’s been given this opportunity,” said Faye Patzner, SVP, chief legal officer for CUNA Mutual Group. “Steve will do a great job as chairman,” Patzner added.

As chairman, Koslow will lead CEFLI's board of directors, which is comprised of chief compliance and ethics officers of CEFLI’s member companies and representatives of affiliate membership organizations.  This allows CEFLI's strategic direction and policy decisions to be made by the end-users of CEFLI's products and services; namely, the life insurance industry's compliance and ethics professionals (Source: CEFLI Board of Directors, Dec. 17, 2012, http://www.cefli.org).

As CUNA Mutual Group’s chief ethics and compliance officer, Koslow leads the teams that design and implement the controls necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory market conduct requirements. Koslow is also responsible for oversight of employees who assess compliance risk, monitor compliance work and maintain governance over the company’s documented policies, procedures, and standards, Patzner said.

Koslow joined CUNA Mutual Group in 2007. Previously, he was a director in the governance, risk and compliance group at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, in Chicago, Ill. In addition, he served in the law department at MetLife and as an attorney for law firms in Chicago, Ill. and Denver, Colo.

Koslow earned a bachelor’s degree with honors along with a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and he holds a jurist doctor from the Northwestern University School of Law.

In addition, Koslow has published articles in several industry publications and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences.
