International Award Cites Company’s Success in Managing Information
CHICAGO – CUNA Mutual Group is running lighter these days due to an award-winning records management project that, among other things, eliminated electronic information that would fill the equivalent of 70 billion sheets of single-spaced paper.
ARMA International, a global organization focused on corporate record and information management, has named CUNA Mutual Group its 2012 Cobalt Award winner. The annual award recognized CUNA Mutual for embracing solid records and information management that resulted in the implementation of meaningful compliance controls and the elimination of more than 159 terabytes of electronic information over a four-year period.
As part of its records and information management project, CUNA Mutual also recycled 1,217 tons of paper during the four-year period.
In bestowing its highest industry honor, ARMA International lauded CUNA Mutual for its superior records management and for going beyond merely purging data to creating a sustainable system for managing data as an asset, like any other company asset. Also recognized were CUNA Mutual’s efforts at protecting private data and properly storing corporate records. ARMA said, “Clearly, CUNA Mutual has made the cultural shift necessary for an organization to embrace solid records and information management as a foundation for its success.”
By being named the 2012 Cobalt winner, CUNA Mutual Group joined elite company, including winners: Cisco Systems (2011), Proctor & Gamble (2010), Prudential Financial (2009) and New York Life (2008). CUNA Mutual was honored at ARMA International’s annual conference in Chicago recently.
“The speed with which information is created today can make managing records in a compliant way challenging,” said Steve Koslow, SVP, Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer for CUNA Mutual. “Stale data is no longer a burden, and we are eliminating expenses that can reach into the millions. In addition, superior records management and efficient disposal of unnecessary data frees up capital so we can better serve our policyholders.”
