MADISON, Wis. – Fred Johnson, the Credit Union Executives Society’s long-time president and CEO, has announced he will be retiring on December 31, 2012.
Johnson’s career with CUES will span more than 23 years upon his retirement. Among many other accomplishments, his leadership saw the development of CUES’ flagship educational program, CEO Institute, which helps credit union professionals achieve a high level of education by attending three of the world’s most prestigious business schools.
Prior to joining CUES, Johnson spent 27 years in the U.S. Army, including time on the faculty at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. He served as a director of West Point Federal Credit Union for six years. He also commanded Infantry and Ranger units in Vietnam and was decorated for heroism and wounds received in action.
“I am proud beyond words at what we have been able to accomplish since I came to CUES in 1989. As the credit union system has grown and prospered over the years, CUES has been growing and prospering right there with it. Our membership numbers have doubled and our revenues have tripled. And, in accomplishing this, we have remained true to our mission: “to educate and develop credit union CEOs, directors and future leaders.” Johnson said.
Lary McCants, CCD, CCE, chairman of the CUES Board of Directors and president/CEO of IBM Southeast EFCU in Boca Raton, Fla. said, “The Board of Directors is grateful for Fred’s visionary leadership. His dedication has had an impact in the professional lives of thousands of credit union leaders. Thank you, Fred, for your tireless support of the Credit Union Industry. You have made a difference.”
