CU Strategic Planning Creates ‘HERO’ Contest to Demonstrate Credit Unions’ Acts of Valor for Members in Distress

TACOMA, WA (July 8, 2013) -- CDFI grant writing firm CU Strategic Planning has created a new possibility of generating good in this world with its “Helping Everybody Reach Opportunity” or HERO contest – the firm’s Community Development Certified Financial Counseling training program campaign. The firm’s HERO Counseling has been developed for organizations serving working-class, moderate- and low-income populations, including organizations that provide counseling, CDFIs, and low-income designated credit unions. It is also an effective way for mainstream financial institutions and loan funds to better serve consumers when they face difficult times.

In 200 words or less, credit unions can share their stories of how a member of their staff or the credit union itself has been a HERO to:

  • an individual
  • a cause in their area
  • their entire community

This summertime campaign runs from June 24 to August 24, 2013. Written entries can be sent to: HERO@creditunionstrategicplanning.com. Winners will be announced August 28, 2013.

The winning credit union receives a FREE Community Development Certified Financial Counseling (CDCFC) training program – or HERO Counseling – from CU Strategic Planning for the entire credit union staff. Second and third runners-up receive HERO Counseling training for their branch of choice.

“HERO is all about making a difference in people’s financial lives, and now it’s the credit unions’ turn to tell their cooperative and generous stories,” says CU Strategic Planning Founder Jamie Chase. “All they have to do is share their story of how they identified and intervened to help members in financial distress and led them to a brighter future.” “Credit unions people-first mission-based focus make them a hero every day in people’s lives, says CU Strategic Planning President Stacy Augustine “This contest just recognizes the work that credit unions do for their members and their communities on a daily basis.”
