Credit union finance professionals get hands-on financial management practice

MADISON, WI (May 12, 2015) – Credit union CFOs and finance professionals will participate in a financial industry simulation to strengthen their financial management skills at CUNA Financial Management School, held August 16-20, 2015 in Las Vegas.

“Most people learn best from experience and we’ve had tremendous success at our school using the Stanford Bank Game as a learning tool,” commented Brad Covey, Learning Technology and Blended Learning Director. “It’s an intensive simulation of the financial services industry. Students go through typical cause-effect financial management scenarios by sitting in the driver’s seat and watching their choices play out.”

Attendees work in teams to make financial management decisions, address challenges and compete in a simulated marketplace. In cooperation with the simulation, industry professionals provide additional insights regarding finance and accounting concepts. The school is offered in three parts:

· CUNA Financial Management School: Part 1
Attendees gain hands-on experience working with a team through financial scenarios provided by an asset-liability management model.
· CUNA Financial Management School: Part 2
Dive into high-level decision-making and strategic scenarios such as risk management and strategic financial forecasting for long-term growth.
· CUNA Financial Management School: Part 3
Attendees work through issues specific to their credit union in productive discussions with a group of experienced peers and industry experts. Please note: simulation is completed in parts 1 & 2 and is not a component of part 3.
